NEW Blog 6

  • My critical question deal with the effects of smart phones have on socializing in the United Staes.
  • My sub topic for this project is to use a newspaper article about football and a billboard
  • The purpose of these topics is to help show a different aspect of genre, themes, and conventions. The work I want my texting to do in the world is to let people be aware that cell phones are not lessing our social skills but improving them. I want people to think that smart phones are not harming college kids at UNL in the social world. I also want football players at UNL  aware that the use of their phones can make them more social.
  • I imagine the audience for my text to be college kids here at UNL and junior high students in Lincoln. I would like to create a advice column for the Lincoln Journal Star involving my opinion on how smart phones are helping kids socialize. I would also like to make a poster that could relate to the football player at UNL on how cell phones can increase their socializing.
  • I plan to compose in the UNL athlete genre and the UNL student body genre.
  • Some mode I think my genres will use are format, text, headlines, pictures, and font.
  • Right now I think my conventions for this genre would be the beneficial use of smart phones.
  • I think right now my model text would be a billboard and or a newspaper article involving sports.

  1. Hi Jordan, I think your purposes and audiences make sense. I'm wondering though about the opinion column. That doesn't seem like the kind of genre that a lot of high schoolers or college students would read. What about using something from the Daily Nebraskan as a model text because at least that is geared toward college students.
